The project, kickstarted by Jonathan Kis-Lev, an Israeli Jew, and Riman Barakat, a Palestinian Muslim, is founded on their profound belief that dialogue and simple, social contact is an absolutely crucial element in good relations between people of all faiths and cultural backgrounds. Although this simple social contact between Arabs and Jews has become increasingly rare over the last two decades, Kis-Lev and Barakat believe that it is still possible for peace to be rekindled. With years of rich experience in bringing together youth and adults for various dialogue programs, the two decided to create an open space where all can come and simply meet one another, while celebrating their religious and faith differences. 

 

The Hallelujah Dialogue Project views the three monotheistic religions as a way to peace rather than as a hindrance to reconciliation. The activities offered by the project include singing spiritual songs from the various traditions, studying each other's sacred texts, and hosting dialogue groups about faith and God. With other, more physical activities such as dancing for women only or Ultimate Frisbee games, the project offers attractions for all ages and interests. Through these intellectual and creative activities, Kis-Lev and Barakat hope to bring a new spirit of hope and cooperation to the city of Jerusalem and its surroundings. 

 

Hosted in the historic YMCA building, which has been facilitating peaceful coexistence between the communities of Jerusalem for over 130 years, the goal of the Hallelujah Dialogue Project is create a basis for dialogue between all the peoples of our ancient land.
